Step 5
Diagnostic tests can be run on many resources while the operating system is running. However, you can
obtain more extensive problem isolation by running online diagnostics in service mode.
Do you want to run the online diagnostics in service mode?
NO
Go to "Step 6".
YES
Shut down the system as described in "Stopping the system" on page 310, without
removing power. Then, go to "Step 7".
Step 6
This step invokes the online diagnostics in concurrent mode.
1. Log in as root user.
2. Enter the diag command.
3. Wait until the Diagnostic Operating Instructions are displayed, or wait for three minutes.
Are the Diagnostic Operating Instructions displayed without any obvious console display
problems?
NO
Shut down the system as described in "Stopping the system" on page 310, without
removing power. Then, go to "Step 7".
YES
Go to "Step 10" on page 249.
Step 7
This step loads online diagnostics in service mode. If you are unable to load the diagnostics, go to "Step
8".
1. Turn on the power.
2. When the keyboard indicator appears, press 6 on the ASCII terminal keyboard, to indicate that
diagnostics should be loaded.
3. Enter any requested passwords.
4. Follow any instructions to select a console.
Are the Diagnostics Operating Instructions displayed without any obvious display problems?
NO
Go to "Step 8".
YES
Go to "Step 10" on page 249.
