7) Using ST, turn the crankshaft and align the align-

ment marks on crankshaft and left and right cam

sprockets with alignment marks of belt cover and

ST 499987500

CRANKSHAFT SOCKET

8) Remove the belt idler.

9) Remove the timing belt.

10) Remove the automatic belt tension adjuster as-

11) Install in the reverse order of removal. <Ref. to

ME(H4DOTC)-52, INSTALLATION, Timing Belt.>

When installing the timing belt, be sure to align

all alignment marks on the belt with corre-

sponding marks on the sprockets. If incorrectly

installed, interference between pistons and

valves may occur.

B: INSPECTION

1. SOHC MODEL (CHECK FOR TIMING

BELT POSITION)

1) Remove the timing belt cover (LH).

2) Turn the crank pulley to set #1 cylinder piston to

top dead center of compression stroke and check

the followings.

(1) Check that the arrow (A) of camshaft pulley

LH points to the upright.

(2) Remove the sealing rubber (B) of the timing

belt cover RH.

(3) Check that the arrow (C) of camshaft pulley

RH points to the upright.
