OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF THE 2032
3.1. INTRODUCTION
The operating principles of the 2032 are few and simple, and can be described as
follows:
1.
Control of the 2032 is divided between "hard" and "soft" controls. Hard controls
are implemented as pushkeys on the front panel of the 2032. Soft controls are
accessed via the 2032 display.
2.
All measurement parameters are entered via the soft controls. The required pa-
rameter is accessed using FIELD SELECT and the required value is entered using
FIELD ENTRY. Where a parameter can be accessed, it can be changed. Those
parameters which cannot be accessed cannot be changed. The progress of the
measurement and the output of results is controlled from the hard controls.
3.
The measurement conditions are defined by the MEASUREMENT SETUP.
4.
The display and presentation of results is defined by the DISPLAY SETUP.
5.
The read-out of results from the 2032 Display is defined by the CURSOR SETUP.
6.
As a general principle, the presence of a star in any parameter field indicates a
warning of, for instance, a setup changed while a measurement is in progress.
7.
An illegal setting in any parameter field is indicated by that field starting to blink.
This Chapter together with Chapters 4 and 5 further describe operation of the 2032
and use of the hard and soft controls.
3.2. MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
A measurement is carried out as follows:
1.
Extract the control drawer of the 2032 by gently pressing the drawer at its centre
and then releasing it. The drawer will spring out allowing it to be extended fully,
exposing the main controls of the 2032.
2.
Select the required MEASUREMENT SETUP
3.
Start the measurement using the RECORD and AVERAGING CONTROL controls.
4.
Select the required DISPLAY SETUP
5.
The result of the measurement will appear on the 2032 display. Results can be
read from the display usi·ng the CURSOR. They can also be output to an X- Y
Recorder, over the Digital Output for example to the Graphics Recorder Type 2313
or the Digital Cassette Recorder Type 7400, or to a Video Plotter or Recorder.
