close together and check that the measurement transducers are isolated from
grounded measurement sources.

Where instruments with mains connector including a protective earth -
chassis
contact are employed, check that a) one and only one of these instruments has its
signal ground line connected via chassis to mains ground and b) the housing of the
measurement transducers are isolated from grounded measurement sources.

Where the measurement arrangement is used free-standing without the instrument
cabinets touching, check that each of the other instruments in the measurement
arrangement has its chassis connected to a) mains ground only or b) signal ground
only. With instruments having a mains connector with protective earth-chassis
contact a) is to be preferred.

Where the measurement arrangement is mounted in an instrumentation rack, en-
sure that one and only one of the instruments has its signal ground line connected
to chassis (and chassis connected to mains ground if equipped with a mains con-
nector having a protective earth-chassis contact). If more than one of the instru-
ments has a permanent signal ground -
chassis connection, then isolate the cabi-
nets of these instruments from the rack using isolating flanges for mounting.

Note that the signal inputs to the 2032 are single ended, and hence care should be
taken when mounting transducers to avoid ground loop problems. This may involve
the use of isolated transducer mounting points, etc ..
The 2032 is an IEC safety Class II instrument. For correct grounding in accordance
with the above requirements, its signal ground line can be connected or disconnected
from the chassis using the OPEN/SHORTED switch located on its rear panel. The
switch should normally be set to the "Shorted" position, whereby the signal and chas-
sis ground are connected, except when the connection is made elsewhere in the instru-
ment set up. The switch should then be set to the "Open" position.

WARNING!
The 2032 is designed to be operated with its signal ground and chassis at
zero earth potential. Never let the signal ground terminals, socket screens or chassis
float at other than approximately zero earth potential, as this will impair the operating
safety of the apparatus and may damage it.
