Vehicle safety controls
Air bag warning labels are attached to alert the passengers to potential risks of the air bag
system.
Note that these government warnings focus on the risks to children. We also want you to
be aware of the risks that adults are exposed to, which have been described in previous
pages.
WARNING
僅 Never place a rear facing child restraint in the front passenger seat, unless the passen-
ger-side air bag is deactivated. An inflating passenger-side air bag could impact the
rear-facing child restraint and kill the child.
僅 Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rearward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an
air bag in front of it!
僅 Never put a child restraint in the front passenger's seat. If the front passenger air bag
inflates, it can cause serious or fatal injuries.
僅 NEVER use a rearward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an ACTIVE AIR BAG
in front of it. DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY to the CHILD can occur.
僅 When children are seated in the rear outboard seats of a vehicle equipped with side
and/or curtain air bags, be sure to install the child restraint system as far away from the
door side as possible, and securely lock the child restraint system in position.
Inflation of side and/or curtain air bags could cause serious injury or death to an infant
or child.
NOTE
If equipped with rollover sensor
僅 The air bags inflate instantly in the even of a rollover (if equipped with a side air bag or
curtain air bag) in order to help protect the occupants from serious physical injury.
僅 The side and/or the curtain air bag may deploy when the rollover sensor detects the sit-
uation as a rollover.
Active hood system (if equipped)
The active hood system can reduce a risk of injury to pedestrians by raising the hood in
certain accident situations. The active hood system has the additional deformation space
under the hood, which is made available for the subsequent head impact.
When the active hood system is activated:
Operating condition(s)
僅 The vehicle is in ON position and the vehicle speed is between approximately 25~50
km/h (15~30 mph)
僅 The active hood system is designed to work in a frontal collision depending on the inten-
sity, speed or angles of impact of the front collision.
NOTE
僅 If the active hood system has been activated, do not place the hood back by yourself.
Have the system repaired by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an
authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
僅 If you change or repair the front bumper, have the system checked by a professional
workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
