Chapter 3: FRU Removal and Replacement Procedures
Replacing the Node

Caution: This procedure requires that the hard drives from the failed
Node be removed and installed in the replacement Node.
This is necessary to retain the customer data. If the
customer requires that the new hard drives included in the
replacement Node be used, you must reinstall the system
software (see the DXi6900 Software Installation and
Upgrade Guide, PN 6-68286), and the customer data
currently on the system will be lost.
Caution: Use appropriate ESD precautions, including the use of a
grounding strap, when performing this procedure.
Removing and replacing the DXi6900 G1 Node includes the following
steps:

Removing a Failed Node
To remove the DXi6900 G1 Node:
1 Shut down the system (see
System
on page 23).
2 Remove the Node from the rack (see
on page 78).
Note: You only need to open the cover if there is an optional
network card installed in PCIe slot 2 (see step 4 below).
3 Remove all hard drives from the failed Node (see
Hard Drive
on page 90).
Caution: You must note the number of each hard drive and
temporarily label them before removal so that you can
install each of them in the correct location in the
replacement Node.
4 If installed, removed the optional dual port 10 GbE card (along with
any associated SFPs) or optional quad port 1 GbE card installed in
