Chapter 4 REGISTRATION MARK SETTINGS AND DETECTION

4.1 Outline of the Registration Mark Function

The registration mark function allows you to align the orientation of the plotter's X and Y axes with the
coordinate axes on a medium that is pre-printed with registration marks or other marks. The plotter uses
a sensor to read the registration marks printed on the media, and then adjusts the axes to match the
coordinate data so that cutting can be performed on pre-printed media without any shift between the print
and cut data.
Registration marks are the L-shaped marks that are positioned to enclose a printed image. They are generally used
for trimming printed material or for the alignment of color separations for printing. With this plotter, however, they are
used to align the printed data and the position of the medium.
For automatic recognition of registration marks, their line width must range from 0.5 to 1.0 mm.
The plotter may not be able to accurately read registration marks in the following cases if:
• A color other than black was used for the registration marks.
• The registration mark line is blurred.
• There is dust or other foreign matter in the reading area.
• The medium floats up from the writing panel.
When using a medium that is not suitable for automatic registration mark detection, use manual registration mark
detection instead.
