10.1
Network access security
With the enhanced Ethernet function of IDEC SmartRelay devices, you can access the Base
Modules through WindLGC, the Web server, or other compatible devices with Ethernet
interfaces. In this case, both Internet and Intranet communication is possible for the IDEC
SmartRelay devices.
For Internet communication, accessing the Base Module requires a valid user password to
ensure network security. You can set or change the password from WindLGC only. For
more information about setting the user password, refer to the Online Help for WindLGC.
For Intranet communication, you can access the Base Module directly with no password
required. The communication is considered as Intranet communication when destination
devices exist within the same network according to the IP address and subnet mask.
IDEC strongly recommends that you do not put the IDEC SmartRelay devices (Base Modules
and the FL1F-RD1) directly on the Internet, but hide them behind a firewall (see illustration
below). In addition, make sure you select TCP port 8080 and block all other ports in the
firewall configuration; otherwise, there may be network security risks, for example, data
leakage, virus invasion and hacker attack.
