7-36 Disassembly and Reassembly
Removing a CPU
Perform the following steps to remove a CPU. The EXPRESSBUILDER CD provided with the
server is required for confirming that the additionally installed CPU is in normal state.
IMPORTANT:
Do not remove any CPU unless it is failed.

Install a terminator on any slot in which a CPU is not installed.

See the section "Preparing for Installation and Removal" described earlier to prepare.

Pull out the server from the rack.
2.
Open the top cover.
3.
Remove the heat sink.
4.
With the optional CPU
(Insert a flat-tip screwdriver into the
wire clip, and remove the heat sink.)
Lift the CPU socket lever to the up position (see figure below).

When you replace the CPU, install the CPU according to the steps in the previously
described installation procedure.
When you remove the CPU and do not replace it with new one, install a CPU in CPU
slot #1, and install a terminator in CPU slot #2.
With the standard CPU
(Push the clip with your finger to
remove the bracket.)
