Network Address Translation (NAT) is a mechanism for
translating an internal IP address or network address into a single
globally unique IP address.
There are several benefits of using NAT, such as internal address
re-use; use of unregistered addresses; the ability to hide internal
addresses; and not needing to re-address the internal network
when connecting to the internet or a corporate network.
For a Nautica product, the most important benefit is the ability to
be assigned an IP address by a service provider, without the need
to reconfigure the local network.
For more general information on NAT, refer to Chapter 1.
