How Do I Install the Virtual Packet Driver in Windows
95?
117237-E Rev.00
The virtual packet driver installs as a plug-and-play protocol from
the network section of the Windows 95 Control Panel. As the
final part of the installation process, you can customize the virtual
packet driver's settings so that it uses the default software
interrupt also used by the Nautica software load programs. The
installation process is as follows:
1.
Take the packet driver installation files ndis3pkt.386 and
ndis3pkt.inf and copy them to diskette or place them in their
own directory on your PC.
2.
From the network section of the Control Panel, click the
button to add a new network protocol.
3.
When prompted for the manufacturer of the protocol, click
on 'Have Disk', and direct the install program to the disk or
directory created in Step 2. Click on OK once the Virtual
Packet Driver is highlighted. The install program builds the
driver information database.
4.
After the driver is installed, click on OK to exit the network
configuration.
5.
Answer No when prompted to restart Windows 95.
6.
From the Start Menu, select Run and enter SYSEDIT to run
the system configuration utility. Select the window for
system.ini and move to the bottom of the file.
7.
At the bottom of the file, the following section was added
during the installation of the driver:
[ndis3pkt]
netcard=0
8.
Add a line after this that reads as follows:
intvec0=0x66
9.
Save the edits to the system.ini file, close SYSEDIT and
restart Windows 95 for the changes to take effect.
