Working with Minumum to Configure

2-8
Minimum to Distinguish (MTD) is the least amount that has to be
typed for the BCC to recognise a command or parameter name.
Minimum to Configure (MTC) is the least amount that has to be
entered for an object to be created.
For example, within the IP class it is possible to create route, filter
and OSPF objects. Each of these objects contains many
parameters, but not all of these parameters need to be typed to
create the object.
Generally, most objects need a name and a type to create them. A
path object, for example, needs a path type and then a path name.
These two parameters (separated by a /) are known as the path's
MTC.
As an example, enter the following at any config prompt:
new pa ppp/test
box#
Note:
If you are not at a config mode prompt (the prompt ends
in a #), precede the previous command line with the co (config)
command.
The BCC prompt changes to show that you are now inside the
new path object:
[Save] path/ppp/test#
Path type and Path name are only two of the many parameters that
can be set for a path object, but they are all that is needed to create
the path; therefore they are known as the path object's MTC.
MTDs and MTCs are listed with all the objects and parameters
throughout this manual; refer to the relevant chapter for more
information.
For more information on paths, refer to Chapter 7.
