Spanning Tree Protocol

117237-E Rev.00
The Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) must be enabled on a bridge
network where loops can be created. The STP resolves the
network topology to ensure that where physical loops exist, then
certain links are disabled to create a single path through the
network. Only when the primary link fails are the disabled links
brought into service.
Caution:
It is not advisable to enable STP on a bridge that uses
ISDN connections. The time taken for STP to recognise that a
new path has been added to the network normally exceeds the
timeout period of an automatic call. This results in the call
clearing down due to inactivity as no data transfer can take
place until the STP is resolved.
Move into the STP object by using the following syntax:
[co] br st
where co moves the BCC into config mode (if required), br takes
you to the bridge# object and st moves you into the stp# object.
Typing i at the stp# object prompt lists all the Spanning Tree
parameters. In the table below, click on the parameter for which
you require further assistance.
