IP routing

IP routing allows the network to be routed so that all devices in the home can
communicate with each other. In this case, IP routing uses NAT to translate the IP
address of a host within a packet.
NAT is employed in one of the following two ways:
HSI traffic is directed to a public IP address — The default gateway that will route
the HSI traffic has its address transmitted to the ONT router using DHCP Option
3.
Video traffic is directed to a private IP address — Routes used for the IPTV
service are transmitted to the ONT router using DHCP Option 121.
NAT rules are not used for VoIP traffic since the routes used by this traffic are
received by DHCP Option 121.

DNS requirements

DNS maps a domain name to its corresponding IP address and vice versa. For the
WAN, the ONT receives two sets of DNS addresses:
The first set of received DNS addresses are the primary and secondary addresses
from the IP edge for HSI traffic.
The second set of received DNS addresses are the primary and secondary
addresses from the IP edge for video services.
All four of these addresses are transmitted using DHCP Option 6.
