1 . Align the marks on the ring gear and the gear case and
assemble them.
Tightening torque:

Side bearing inner race
Note
• Install the side bearing inner races on their respec-
tive sides.
1. Install the side bearing inner races with the SST and a press.
Adjusting screw
Note
• Install the adjusting screws on their respective
sides.
• Align the adjusting screw and the differential carri-
er threads.
1. Install the adjusting screws to the differential carrier.
Bearing cap
Note
• Align the bearing cap and the adjusting screw
threads.
1. Install the bearing cap, and apply a small amount of thread-
locking compound

type), then temporarily tighten the
bolts.
Adjustment of backlash
1. While turning the ring gear, tighten the left and right adjust·
ing screws alternately with the
SST
to reduce the backlash.
2. Mark the ring gear at four points at 90
0
intervals.
3. Mount a dial indicator to the carrier so that the feeler comes
in contact at a right angle with one of the ring gear teeth.
4. Hold the companion flange, and turn the ring gear and
measure the backlash at the four marked points. Verify that
one backlash is within the specified value and that the back-
lash variation is less than 0.11 mm (0.0043 in).
