Service Test Print 1 - This print is good for
revealing a number of possible defects. Once you
identify a problem, you should print one of the other
service prints designed specifically for
troubleshooting that problem.
Look for:
1. Skip and scan misconvergence - Tabloid
paper. Look for misconverged vertical lines
running thru the centerline of the print, perform
"Adjusting the horizontal image interleave (skip)"
on page 9-32. Ensure the tops ends of the lines
are horizontally aligned, perform "Adjusting the
vertical interleave (scan shift)" on page 9-34.
2. Uniform density. Look for uniform fill from the left
to the right edge of the print. Lack of uniformity
could be caused by printhead-to-drum
misalignment, see "Printhead-to-drum spacing
adjustment" on page 9-16. Lack of uniformity on
the edge of the print may be caused by incorrect
transfix roller pressure, see "Transfix roller
pressure spring adjustment" on page 9-18. A
defective printhead can also cause uniformity
problems, particularly if the density difference is
about 1/3 of an A-size page wide. Narrower
density problems may be caused by a paper
preheater. Print Service Print 6.
3. Weak jets or off-axis jets. Defective printhead.
Defective cap/wipe/purge system that is unable to
clear a clogged jet. Print Service Print 2.
4. Wrinkling . See Service Print 8.

Test Patterns

This appendix illustrates the service test prints produced by the printer. It
shows a number of defective prints and the reason for the defects. Chapter 6
Troubleshooting discusses solutions to the problems shown in this appendix. The
test prints 8 push the printer to the extremes of its performance to reveal possible
shortcomings. Note that defects revealed by the prints may not show up at all in
the course of ordinary printing. In servicing the printer, you should minimize
the defects shown by the prints but not necessarily eliminate them.
