X-axis drive assembly

1.
Turn off the printer and remove the power cord.
2.
Remove the top and left-side right-side covers as explained in the
earlier topic, "Cabinet panels and covers" on page 8-4.
3.
Disconnect the wiring harness leading from the X-axis motor to J19 of
the power control board.
4.
Disconnect the X-axis home sensor from J109 (GREEN) I/O board 1.
5.
Remove the printhead as explained in the previous procedure
"Printhead" on page 8-36.
6.
Remove the printhead restraint assembly as described in the earlier
procedure "Printhead transit restraint assembly" on page 8-41.
7.
Remove the printhead restraint bracket, cable holders and the
restraint sensor.
8.
Remove the cap/wipe/purge hose pass-thru and hoses on the
right-side chassis frame. Disconnect the wiring harness and hose
leading to the cap/wipe/purge unit. Refer to the illustration
"Removing the cap/wipe/purge unit" on page 8-47.
9.
Remove the left-side head restraint pin/plate.
Caution
Do not remove the black plastic plugs, on the sides of the printer
frame, covering the access hole for the X-axis roll adjustment.
10. Remove the printhead cable and restraint sensor restraints.
11. Protect the drum with sheets of paper or a thin piece of cardboard
positioned between the drum and the printhead mounting bracket.
12. Remove the X-axis drive cover plate. It is secured to the x-axis drive
system by four screws accessible through small access holes in the left-
and right-side printer frame.
13. Rotate the head tilt cam gear to position the printhead mounting
bracket forward toward the drum. Manually slide the printhead
mounting bracket to the center of the X-axis rail.
14. Remove the four hex screws, or nuts) securing the X-axis drive
assembly to the bottom frame of the printer (access these screws
through the printer's maintenance tray bay). Remove a fifth screw
securing the assembly to the left side of the printer frame; access the
screw through a hole in I/O board 1. Lift and remove the assembly,
carefully feeding its wiring harnesses through their access holes in the
printer frame.
