Field Replaceable Unit Disassembly/Assembly

Cap/wipe/purge unit

Magnetic screwdriver

Warning
Even when the printer is turned off, AC line voltages may be
present at the printer heaters while the printer is plugged into AC
power.
1.
Turn off the printer and remove the power cord.
2.
Remove the top and left-side right-side covers as explained in the
earlier topic, "Cabinet panels and covers" on page 8-4.
3.
Remove the ink loader as explained in the earlier topic, "Ink loader"
on page 8-9.
4.
Remove the printhead as described in the earlier procedure
"Printhead" on page 8-36.
5.
Disconnect and free the wiring harness leading from the cap
wipe/purge unit to the power control board. Remove the small,
two-part white plastic panel to free the wiring harness. Disconnect
the vacuum hose leading to the cap wipe/purge assembly.
6.
Press down on the solenoid flapper under the head tilt arm to engage
the head tilt cam gear. Rotate the process motor gear clockwise to tilt
the printhead mount into its retracted, tilt back position.
7.
Rotate the cap/wipe/purge drive assembly's drive shaft to raise the
cap/wipe/purge unit to the top of its travel. (The drive shaft rotates
easier if the cap/wipe/purge drive motor is unplugged from the
power control board.)
8.
Place a thick sheet of paper between the cap/wipe/purge unit and the
drum to protect the drum.
