The method of printing employed by Tektronix Phaser 5,372,852. Purchase of a Tektronix Phaser 350 Color Printer provides a purchaser with a license under claims 1, 3, 20, and 22 of the '852 patent, but not a license under other claims of that patent, which cover methods of printing using inks having specific properties.
Tektronix warrants that the Phaser 350 will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment and that the Maintenance Cartridge in the Phaser 350 will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of shipment or six months where longer periods are required by law.

Paper Tray Assembly. Place the printer on top of the Lower Paper Tray Assembly. Note Phaser 350 Color Printer The printer is not permanently attached to the Lower Paper Tray Assembly. When moving the printer, first disconnect it from the Lower Paper Tray Assembly and then move each unit separately.

Make sure that the left and right alignment pins fit in the holes in the base of the printer. Plug the Lower Paper Tray Assembly cable into the printer. To move the printer more than a few feet, it is easier to disconnect the Lower Paper Tray Assembly and move the printer separately from the Lower Paper Tray Assembly.

If you move or ship the printer, be sure to remove the maintenance tray to protect the printer from damage.

If you are loading transparencies in the transparency tray, load up to three boxes (a total of 175 sheets) of transparency media. If you are using Tektronix premium transparency media, position the transparency notch in the back, right corner of the tray. Standard Tektronix transparencies can be loaded in any orientation.

Insert the media tray into the printer. Loading the Lower Paper Tray Assembly The Lower Paper Tray Assembly holds up to 500 sheets of paper. A label on the inside of the tray provides a fill line to indicate the tray’s maximum paper capacity.

PhaserShare card (optional) The printer accepts one of the following: PhaserShare Ethernet card supporting Novell NetWare, EtherTalk, TCP/IP, Telnet and FTP protocols. PhaserShare Token Ring card supporting Novell NetWare, TCP/IP, TokenTalk, Telnet and FTP protocols. PhaserShare LocalTalk/serial card. Parallel connection The printer supports a standard (uni-directional) parallel port. The parallel port can also be set for bi-directional communications using downloadable utility files or from your World Wide Web browser. Refer to the printer’s CD-ROM or the PhaserShare Network Cards and Software System Administrator Manual, respectively, for information on changing parallel communications.

The printer is available for printing when it displays Ready or the printer’s name. 2-26 Phaser 350 Color Printer To ensure optimum printing performance and best ink economy, leave the printer turned on overnight and during weekends. The printer automatically switches into a standby mode to reduce power consumption during periods of infrequent use.
Turning off the Startup page After the printer has warmed up, it automatically prints a startup page. If you want to turn off the startup page, you can do so through the front panel. Refer to Chapter 7 for instructions on using the front panel. You can also control the startup page through a utility file provided on the printer’s CD-ROM, or through your World Wide Web browser.

Using the Windows NT 4.0 PostScript driver If you are using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, first follow the instructions in Chapter 2 to set up a printer driver for a Phaser 350 printer. Then, select TekColor color corrections and other printer features from the Windows NT driver.

The printer must be set for the correct size media through the printer driver. The image area for the Phaser 350 printer is 8.11 x 10.45 in. (Letter-size) and 200 x 283 mm (A4-size). The difference between the image area and the media size for the top margin and side margins is 5 mm (0.2 in.).

The standard paper trays are designed for use with paper media. You can use a standard paper tray for printing up to 50 transparency sheets. However you must use a Tektronix printer driver to specify Transparency as the media type and confirm the print at the front panel.

Transparency quality tips Select the Standard print-quality mode in the printer driver for the most vibrant, saturated colors on transparencies. When you manually feed Tektronix premium transparencies, orient the transparency notch closest to you with the notch on the right side. The standard Tektronix transparency media is not notched. When prompted by the front panel, insert one sheet of paper or transparency media until it stops.

Using the automated fax systems As an alternative to other resources, and to provide up-to-date information quickly, Tektronix has set up HAL (Highly Automated Library) and EuroHAL, two interactive, automated fax systems. These automated fax systems provide Macintosh, PC, and workstation users with the latest technical hints and tips (like color adjustments), solutions to common technical problems, and application notes for software problems.
