Upper Level / Lower Level Paper Empty Sensor (PES1 /
PES2)
These sensors are photointerrupters. When the paper in the paper supply
cassette runs out, the lever lowers and blocks the light between the light
emitters and receptors, causing detection of no paper.

Cut Sheet Feed Sensor (PFS), Paper Register Sensor

These sensors are photointerrupters located partway in the paper transport
path. When paper passes through this location, the levers are pushed over,
blocking light between the light emitters and receptors, causing detection of
paper in that location.
