Chapter 10. Attaching an external tape device to the SAS
RAID Module
The SAS RAID Module has four 3.0 GB external SAS Ports that you can use to
attach an external SAS storage tape device. This chapter describes the installation
process for the following supported tape devices:
Tape device considerations
To create a successful backup solution using SAS storage tape devices, consider the
following:
v The backup software that you use must support the operating environment,
v The SAS RAID Module does not support configurations where multiple servers
v For optimal backup performance, do not mix tape devices with disk storage
v Use zoning to isolate different types of traffic when you use an SAS connectivity
v LAN-free drive sharing is not supported for the SAS-based tape libraries covered
v The predefined zones that ship with the SAS switch have external ports enabled.

Ensure that only one application is accessing the tape device at a time.
