Disassembly (cont'd)
30. Bemove the valve oil seal and backup ring {'96 -'97
models) or wave washer ('98 -'00 models) from the
oinion shaft.
NOTE:
. Inspect the ball bearing by rotating the outer race
slowly. lf there is any excessive play, replace the
pinion shaft and sleeve as an assembly.
. The pinion shaft and sleeve are a precise fit; do
n o t i n t e r m i x o l d a n d n e w p i n i o n s h a f t s a n d
steeves.
'98 - '(x) mod.lr:
WAVE WASHER
Replace.
3 1 . Press the valve oil seal and roller bearing {'96 -,97
m o d e l s l o r b u s h i n g ( ' 9 8 - ' 0 0 m o d e l s l o u t o f t h e
valve housing using a hydraulic press and special
tool shown below.
NOTE: Do not use a hammer; it will damage the
specialtool.
