Option Installation
Slot Locations
As shown in Figure 3-5, the system has six expansion board slots:
T
three PCI slots
T
two ISA slots
T
one shared PCI/ISA slot.
PCI expansion boards run at the system's processor speed. The PCI bus handles 32 bits of
data at a time, being wider as well as faster than the standard ISA bus. The PCI boards'
faster speed boosts system performance.
ISA expansion slots support industry-standard 8-bit or 16-bit expansion boards. The shared
PCI/ISA slot can be used either for a PCI or an ISA expansion board.
Expansion Board Installation
1.
Remove the system unit cover (see "Removing the System Unit Cover" in this
section).
Follow any preinstallation instructions that come with the expansion board (such
2.
as setting switches or jumpers on the board).
Remove the screw securing an expansion slot cover and remove the cover (see
3.
Figure 3-6).
Save the screw for installing the expansion board. Store the slot cover in case you
choose to remove the expansion board in the future.
