Introduction to Type 5998 Introduction to Type 5998 The electronics of Type 5998 are mains powered and built into a robust casing which has two microphone channels, one of which is used for the transmitter and the other for the receiver. The instrument also includes a high-precision 200 V po- larization voltage supply.

WARNING: The polarization voltage terminals on the front panel produce up to 200VDC. The following Checking Procedure for Type 5998 is a subset of the final factory test. The Checking Procedure verifies that the functionality of Type 5998 is correct.

Chapter 4 — Calibration Polarization Voltage Polarization Voltage The only part of Type 5998 that requires regular calibration is the setting of the polarization voltage. The Polarization Voltage should be adjusted to 200 V on the front panel of Type 5998.
Signal Routing within Type 5998 Inside Type 5998 the signals passes through a high-pass filter with selectable low- frequency roll-off frequencies (1 Hz, 20 Hz, 100 Hz). Selection is done via the front panel or the IEEE–488 bus. The output amplifiers have variable gain (0 to 50 dB in 10 B steps).
Polarisation Voltage is selected. Overload Indication Type 5998 is designed to operate with the same maximum allowable voltage as the transmitter and receiver units. Therefore the overload indicators, sensing both in- put and output of both channels, also indirectly monitors the transmitter and re- ceiver units.
5.2.3 Manual, Interface and PC Control Manual Control When you switch Type 5998 on, it is in local mode and can be controlled manually. section 1.5.1 section 1.5.2 for a description of the front and back panel controls.
The current state of the reciprocity calibration apparatus is indicated by the Re- mote LED on the front panel. Commands Type 5998 is remotely controlled by sending a string which sets all required param- eters. If a parameter is not included, the value is not changed. The commands are listed in Table 5.2.
