Blink Hub Port

Chapter 7

Purpose

The Blink Hub Port Tool allows you to blink the link LED on a 10 Mbps or
10/100 Mbps Ethernet hub or switch port. This feature is useful for locating the
other end of a cable connected into a live network.

Operation

From the Tools menu, press the Blink Hub Port button.
When the Blink Hub Port screen appears, plug the WireScope 350 into a cable
run that terminates in a hub or switch port and press the Blink Hub Port button.

Results

The WireScope 350 applies a periodic 10BaseT link pulse sequence to the
attached hub or switch port. This sequence will cause the hub or switch port link
LED to blink, making it easy to identify the opposite cable end in the wiring
closet.
·
The blink rate is approximately 1 second
During the test, the Blink Hub Port button becomes the Stop Test button,
·
which stops the test and returns to the Blink Hub Port button
