Modal Bandwidth setting
Modal bandwidth describes the grade of the selected fiber. This grade is
significant in determining the loss and length limits for gigabit Ethernet network
certification. Better fiber, with a larger modal bandwidth value, supports higher
losses and longer lengths than fiber with a smaller modal bandwidth. The modal
bandwidth settings will only appear if a 62.5/125u or a 50/125u fiber cable is
selected.
The actual loss and length limits for 1000Base-SX, at 850nm, are dependent on
the fiber type and the modal bandwidth of the selected fiber.
To modify the modal bandwidth information, starting at the Fiber Autotest
Settings screen, select the modal bandwidth icon and press
or Edit.
Select the fiber's modal bandwidth specification and press OK or
to return
to the Fiber Autotest Settings screen.
