Chapter 12

Fiber Certify Networks

Purpose

Some users are not concerned about whether the tested cabling complies with
cabling standard performance requirements, but rather are interested in directly
surveying their cabling for compatibility with popular network applications,
such as Ethernet (at various speeds) and ATM.
Whereas cabling performance standards attempt to be application-neutral and
consequently take into account the requirements of many applications, the
Certify Network test profiles implemented in the WireScope 350 are specific to
the requirements of each network application interface.
By running a fiber certify network test, you can determine whether the tested
cabling run can successfully support the selected network application(s).

Operation

You can either run the Certify Network test profiles as part of the fiber autotest
function (setting this up is described in chapter 7) or separately using the Certify
Networks test function.
To run the Certify Networks function independently, press the Certify
Networks button on the Fiber Main Menu screen. The Certify Networks setup
screen appears. You can directly select which network applications to certify the
cabling for by checking the appropriate boxes in this screen.
The "Other" category encompasses a variety of legacy applications. If you select
this option, the WireScope 350 will analyze the cabling for compatibility with
all of these legacy applications.
