field you wish to auto-incrment. Press

Specifying the fiber cable

You must specify either the part number or the performance characterstics of the
cable under test in order for the WireScope 350 to make accurate length and
power measurements. You can either select the cable part number from a pre-
loaded list of the most popular cable types or you can enter the cable part
number and specifications.
If you manually enter cable specifications, it is important to input accurate
values for the refractive index or, optionally, the nominal velocity of
propagation (NVP) for each fiber type. Failure to do so will produce inaccurate
cable length measurements.
To enter cable information, starting at the Fiber Autotest Settings screen, select
the cable icon and press
or Edit.
The first Cable Setup configuration screen prompts you to specify the
manufacturer of the cable that you will be testing. If you do not know the
manufacturer, select "Unspecified". Use the
key if you need to scroll the list
of manufacturers. In the example above, Corning is selected.
The next Cable Setup configuration screen prompts you to either enter/edit a
cable description or select one from the list already stored on the WireScope
350. If you see the part number of the cable you are using, select it and press
or OK to complete cable selection and return to the Fiber Autotest Settings
screen.
If you do not see the cable you are using already listed in the WireScope 350,
select Add New Description and follow the instructions to add the
specifications data for the new cable.
