Chapter 13

Purpose

Fiber Trace Mode is a troubleshooting tool aimed at helping the installer quickly
verify and correct cabling problems. Upon entering Trace Mode the transmitter

on the Fiber SmartProbe
allows you to verify that the light is present at the end of the cable.

Operation

Press the Trace Mode button from the Fiber Tools menu. This will bring you to
the Fiber Trace Mode screen.
Press Back to exit the tool.
Purpose
The Fiber Learn NVP tool allows you to measure the NVP (Nominal Velocity of
Propagation) of an unknown cable type provided you have a known length.
Cable samples must be at least 50 feet (or 15 meters) long. Longer samples
produce more accurate NVP measurements.
The tool expects the length specification to differ when in single ended mode
and double ended mode.
Single Ended Mode Length Specification
In a single ended configuration, the tool expects a single fiber to be connected
from the transmitter of the Fiber SmartProbe
length in the tool, enter the ENTIRE length of the fiber cable.
Double Ended Mode Length Specification
In double ended configuration, the tool expects 2 fibers to be connected from the
WireScope 350 to the DualRemote. When entering length in the tool, enter the
AVERAGE length of the 2 fiber cables.
