Usage guidelines
When ISDN is processing a voice call, an alerting message is used as the called user alerting indication
defined by the standard protocol. However, some devices use a progress message as the user alerting
indication. For the device to communicate with a device that uses a progress message as the user alerting
indication, convert the progress message into an alerting message.
Examples
# Configure PRI Serial 2/0:15 to convert a received progress message into an alerting message.

Parameters
network: Sets the ISDN protocol mode to the network side mode.
user: Sets the ISDN protocol mode to the user side mode.
Usage guidelines
Protocol mode for an ISDN interface includes user side mode and network side mode. For two ISDN
devices to communicate with each other, set the two interfaces on each device for the communication to
operate in user side mode and network side mode, respectively.
When a BRI on a BSV card directly connects to an ISDN phone, set the BRI to the network side mode. For
other scenarios, set an ISDN interface to the user side mode.
When you configure this command, follow these guidelines:
A BRI for data services does not support the network side mode.
The ANSI, AT&T, ETSI, NI, and NTT protocols supports only the user side mode.
You can execute this command only if no call exists on an ISDN interface.
