Parameters
seconds: Interval (in seconds) for sending keepalive packets, in the range of 0 to 32767. The value 0
disables keepalive packet sending.
Usage guidelines
The polling interval specifies the interval at which an interface sends keepalive packets. If an interface
uses PPP, FR, or HDLC as the link layer protocol, the link layer periodically sends keepalive packets to the
peer. If the peer fails to receive keepalive packets within 10 keepalive intervals, it considers the link faulty
and reports a link layer down event. You can use this command to change the keepalive interval.
Because a slow link takes a long period of time to transmit large packets, the sending and receiving of
keepalives might be delayed so long that one end cannot receive keepalive packets from the peer for a
specific number of keepalive periods and shuts down the link. To prevent this, set the interval for sending
keepalive packets to a relatively longer length of time for a slow link.
Examples
# Set the interval for sending keepalive packets to 1000 seconds on interface Dialer 1.
