DIAGNOSTIC
PROCEDURES
The key to effective troubleshooting is confirming
the proper operation of each engine system.
Causes of electrical failures may be difficult to iso-
late. Check the integrity of all connections,
grounds, and wiring prior to replacing a suspect
component. Refer to GROUND CIRCUITS on
p. 116.
Observe and run the outboard prior to performing
any unnecessary procedures. Initial inspection
should include the following:
Observe the outboard and confirm the actual
•
symptoms.
Refer
CHART at the end of this manual.
Inspect spark plugs for indication of wear, oil
•
fowling, or damage. A rich or lean running con-
dition or evidence of internal engine damage
could be identified by the appearance of the
spark plugs.
Make sure the outboard can be turned over
•
easily. There should not be any mechanical
binding.
Check the Evinrude Diagnostics Software pro-
•
gram Profiles screen, History screen, and Per-
sistent Faults screen for evidence of prior
abnormal operation. Refer to Diagnostic Soft-
ware Program on p. 105.
