Complete rear axle system: Removal - Refitting
2-WHEEL STEERING
Equipment required
pedal press
component jack
safety strap(s)
Tightening torquesm
rear axle bolts
brake pipe unions on
the rear axle
bolts on the "stub axle
carrier - disc - calliper"
assemblies
brake pipe unions on
the callipers
rear axle guard bolts
shock absorber lower
bolts
IMPORTANT
To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply
the safety and cleanliness instructions and opera-
tion recommendations before carrying out any
repair (see 33A, Rear axle components, Rear
axle components: Precautions for the repair,
page 33A-1) .
WARNING
To avoid damaging the parking brake cable protec-
tors and causing premature wear of the system, do
not handle the cables with a tool.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a Release the parking brake.
a Fit the pedal press on the brake pedal to limit the
amount of brake fluid running out.
REAR AXLE COMPONENTS
180 N.m
14 N.m
115 N.m
14 N.m
8 N.m
115 N.m
a Remove:
- the rear wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) ,
- the rear axle guard bolts (1) ,
- the rear axle guard clips (2) ,
- the rear axle guard.
