Odometer
This option allows you to test the odometer, and ensure that the odometer is calibrated properly
for distance. Even though the odometer is calibrated in the factory, you must calibrate it
periodically to ensure accuracy of position. This is particularly important as the calibration can
change with different surface materials (e.g. pavement, grass, sandy soil). The odometer
calibration value is stored in the DVL. If the DVL is changed, swapped out or has the
embedded software upgraded, you will need to run the Odometer Calibration test again.
The image in Figure 5-22 is displayed when you press the Odometer button; the options are
explained below:
Odometer Test – This test verifies that the odometer is calibrated properly. It measures
a set distance (5m or 10') on the surface and then moving the system over that distance.
Press Start to begin and then press Finish when you have moved that distance (Figure
5-23). It will display a pass or fail, along with a percentage difference from the known
