11. Surveying Techniques & Tips

11.1 Low Frequency Full Bistatic Operation

The most common method of data acquisition in rough terrain will be with two people in a
configuration shown below (Figure 11-1). The person carrying the DVL has a belt battery
fastened around their waist to power the DVL. The optional Harness shown is not a necessity
for the DVL operator. They may be just as comfortable carrying the DVL in their hands.
Data collection can be controlled by setting the Trigger Method (6.2.3) to Manual and have the
DVL operator using the DVL buttons or a Bluetooth trigger. It is also possible for the operator
moving the antennas to use the Bluetooth trigger to collect data.
Another option is to set the Trigger Method (6.2.3) to Free Run mode with a time delay between
traces. The antenna operator needs to move the antennas one step size to the new position
and have the antennas on the surface in the delay time before the system automatically triggers
and collects the next data trace.
