Free Run - In some cases, collecting data with an odometer is not practical or even
possible, for example when collecting from a boat. Free run mode allows the system to
pulse based on a specified time interval or pulse continuously. This is best for surveys in
unobstructed terrain where antennas can be moved easily. For the position of each
measurement point, the system assumes the operator has moved the antennas one step
size along the survey line. Pressing Free Run will display the screen in Figure 6-19.
The trace interval (time between pulses) can be varied from a little as 0.01s up to 60s. It
is based on:
Distance = Travel Speed x Trace Interval
The user has the option to control the trace interval or the travel speed, such that the
programmed step size (distance) is maintained. In the example in Figure 6-19, the user
wants to travel at 10 mph. To maintain the set step size, the trace interval will
automatically be set at 0.017s.
Note: If the trace interval and speed value are colored in red, it means that it's
too fast for the system to collect (Figure 6-20). Reduce speed or increase the
