Internet Control Message Protocol. The transport protocol used for ping requests.
IDC
Indoor Chassis
This is the chassis for the 9500 MXC Node, with backplane, into which the various plug-ins are installed. The
IDC is a 1RU chassis. The IDCe (IDC expanded) is a 2RU chassis.
IDU
Indoor Unit
The indoor unit (IDU) interfaces between the customer signals and the ODU.
IF
Intermediate frequency
The signal frequency or frequencies intermediate between the modem electronics and the transmitted/received
frequencies.
IIOP
CORBA's Internet Inter-ORB Protocol
intermediate frequency (IF)
The signal frequency or frequencies intermediate between the modem electronics and the transmitted/received
frequencies.
intermodulation
Intermodulation can occur in systems where multiple signals are present at the same point. Where there is a
nonlinearity in the system any signal will generate harmonics, but when two signals are present, harmonics of
both are produced. The harmonics of the two signals can intermix, resulting in further spurious signals that are
known as intermodulation products. The result of an intermodulation signal can have a major impact on
reception if it falls in a receive channel. As the number of signals increases and/or TX power increases, the
probability of an intermodulation signal causing noise in a receive channel grows.
For point-to-point microwave systems such intermodulation products are usually a minor concern for the reason
the TX power is low (typically less than 1W) and therefore any resulting intermodulation products are unlikely
to be of a magnitude sufficient to cause interference to the wanted receive signal - assuming that such products
fall on the wanted frequency. Secondly, apart from frequency diversity configurations, only one TX signal will
be present on a feeder, meaning there is not the required two or more signals present to generate harmonics in
the presence of connector-caused nonlinearity.
