Installation and Maintenance Manual
Extension numbers used will commence with the next available number, therefore if, for example, the
existing extension number range on a system is 2001-2016, and a P308 is installed the Users automatically
created will be given an extension number within the range of 2017-2024. (This default configuration can
be amended for each User after installation if required, please refer to the Configuring a User section
from page 95 for further details.)
To change the extension number range automatically used when a Phone Module/P308/IP Phone
registers with a system, eg 6001 onwards, the following steps can be taken:
1
Before the Phone Module/P308/IP Phone is connected to the system create a new User with an
extension number one before the start of the range required, eg 6000
2
Connect the module/phone as described in the following sections.
3
The new Users created will be given an extension number commencing with 6001.
4
The User created in step 1 can be deleted if no longer required.
Connecting an Analogue Phone Gateway (P308)
An Analogue Phone Gateway (P308) enables the connection of PCS 505, PCS 520 and 3
handsets, including analogue DECT devices, fax machines, modems etc to the system. All configuration
information for each individual analogue port is obtained from the system database and is stored in its
RAM.
Initial Considerations
Power is supplied by Power over Ethernet (PoE) which can be provided via an Intelligent Gateway
Module PSU (PoE4), a third party PoE switch or via a PoE LAN port available on a 5100 and 5018 Call
Server or 5300 Phone Module.
On initial installation the P308 will request its IP address via a DHCP server.
The analogue ports on this module will be automatically assigned to 8 new Users created during the
installation. The extension numbers given to these Users will commence with the next available
extension number on the system. If you wish to change this please refer to the Extension
Numbering section from page 39.
