Safety characteristics of the safety system

6.4.1

Introduction

The ctrlX DRIVEplus drive systems are certified for use of the optional safety
technology modules "SafeMotion" according to IEC 61508, IEC EN 61800‑5‑2,
EN 62061 and EN ISO 13849‑1.
The risk assessment and risk reduction of a machine require evaluating the
safety functions of the individual components. The interaction of the com-
ponents has to be taken into account, too. Therefor, it is necessary to
determine the total PFH value for the machine or the machine part (e.g.,
a safety zone). The total PFH value allows assessing whether the required
"Safety Integrity Levels" (SIL) or "Performance Levels" (PL) have been com-
plied with. The paragraph below describes for the optional safety technology
modules "Safe Motion" how the PFH value can be determined for a drive
system and how additional components have to be integrated.
6.4.2

Optional safety technology module "M5"

Drives equipped with the optional safety technology module "SafeMotion"
comply with the following "Safety Integrity Level" (SIL) or Performance Level
(PL):
● SIL3 according to EN 61508, EN 62061 and IEC 61800‑5‑2
● SIL2 according to EN 61508, IEC EN 62061 and IEC 61800-5-2
● Category 4, PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1
● Category 3, PL d according to EN ISO 13849-1
