11. If necessary, remove each installed PIC from the FPC.
12. After you remove each PIC, immediately place it on an antistatic mat or in an electrostatic bag.
13. If you are not reinstalling an FPC into the emptied DPC slots within a short time, install a blank DPC
panel over each slot to maintain proper airflow in the card cage.

Installing an MX480 FPC

An FPC takes up two DPC slots on the MX480 router. Up to three FPCs can be installed horizontally in
the front of the router. The FPCs are hot-insertable and hot-removable. An empty FPC3 weighs
14 lb (6.5 kg). A fully configured FPC can weigh up to 18 lb (8.2 kg). Be prepared to accept its full weight.

1. Wrap and fasten one end of the ESD grounding strap around your bare wrist, and connect the other
end of the strap to the ESD point on the chassis.
