10. Inspect shift cam detent stopper and shift cam
detent for worn rollers or broken spring.
11. Inspect bearings for discoloration, flaking, or
roughness and binding when turning.
12. Inspect and thoroughly clean all bearing pockets,
thread bores, and plug openings to remove any
metal filings or dirt accumulations.
13. Clean all parts to be used for assembling in
parts-cleaning solvent; then dry with compressed
air.
! WARNING
Always wear eye protection when using compressed
air.

Assembling Countershaft
1. Place the thrust washer on the splined end of the
countershaft; then install the low driven gear bush-
ing and bearing.
2. Install the low driven gear onto the bearing with
the shift dog slots directed toward the fine-splined
section of the countershaft; then secure with a
splined washer and lock washer.
3. Place a splined thrust washer onto the counter-
shaft; then install the reverse driven gear bushing
and bearing.
