Default Configuration
The interface is set to full duplex.
Command Mode
Interface Configuration (Ethernet) mode.
User Guidelines
• When configuring a particular duplex mode on the port operating at 10/100 Mbps, disable the auto-
negotiation on that port.
• Half duplex mode can be set only for ports operating at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps.
Example
The following example configures the duplex operation of Ethernet port 1/e5 to full duplex operation.
Console(config)# interface ethernet 1/e5
Console(config-if)# duplex full

negotiation

The negotiation command enables auto negotiation operation for the speed and duplex parameters of a
given interface. Use the no form of this command to disable it.
Syntax
• negotiation [capability1 [capability2...capability5]]
• no negotiation
• capability — Specifies the capabilities to advertise. (Possible values: 10h, 10f, 100h,100f, 1000f)
Default Configuration
Auto-negotiation is enabled.
User Guidelines
• There are no user guidelines for this command.
Example
The following example enables auto negotiation of Ethernet port 5.
