Adding Compaq Array Controllers with Extended
SCSI (PCI Hot Plug Slots 10 and 11)
PCI Hot Plug Slots 10 and 11 on the ProLiant ML750 server I/O board are
designed to support Compaq array controllers with Extended SCSI in addition
to industry-standard 33-MHz or 66-MHz PCI expansion boards keyed for
universal or 3.3-V signaling.
If two Compaq array controllers with Extended SCSI are installed in Slots 10
and 11, the redundant controller will provide protection against failure of the
primary controller. The two controllers are connected through the I/O board by
the Intercontroller Link.
IMPORTANT: If only one Compaq array controller with Extended SCSI is installed, either
Slot 10 or 11 may be used. The remaining slot may be used for industry-standard,
33-MHz or 66-MHz PCI expansion boards with universal or 3.3-V keying.
NOTE: Be sure your operating system supports hot addition. For more details, refer to
your operating system documentation.
This procedure for adding a Compaq array controller with Extended SCSI
using PCI Hot Plug technology is based on the assumption that the server boot
device/array is controlled by a separate controller. Also, the internal drive
cages that will be controlled by the Compaq array controller with Extended
SCSI must already be cabled for operation. For example, the internal drive
cage is cabled to one of the SCSI ports on the I/O board.
1. Unlock and open the left PCI Hot Plug access door on the top access
panel. See "Locating the I/O Expansion Slots" earlier in this chapter.
2. If the slot's PCI Hot Plug green LED is on, use the PCI Hot Plug button
or software application to turn power off to the slot. The green LED will
flash during the power down transition and will turn off when power
down is complete. For details on PCI Hot Plug LEDs, see the
"PCI Hot Plug LEDs" section earlier in this chapter.
CAUTION: DO NOT open the slot release lever unless the slot's green PCI
Hot Plug LED is off. System power down and subsequent data loss could occur.
