3-2 Compaq ProLiant ML750 Servers Setup and Installation Guide

System Power

Powering Up the Server

The system power in the ProLiant ML750 server does not shut off completely
with the front panel Power On/Standby switch. The two modes of the power
switch are ON and STANDBY, rather than ON and OFF. The STANDBY
position removes power from most of the electronics and the drives, but
portions of the power supply, the Integrated Management Display (IMD), the
system interlock circuitry and some internal circuitry remain active.
To remove all power from the system completely, you must disconnect all
power cords from the server.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment:
Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an

important safety feature.
Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is

easily accessible at all times.
Disconnect power from the server by unplugging the power cord from

either the electrical outlet or the server.
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components. Be sure
you are properly grounded before beginning any installation procedure. See
Appendix B, "Electrostatic Discharge," for more information.
You can now bring your ProLiant ML750 server online in accordance with
your network and operating system procedures. When you power on the
server, it should go through the following sequence. Record any discrepancies
and any error messages that appear.
1. Verify that system interlocks are met. See "System Interlocks" later in
the chapter.
2. Press and release the Power On/Standby switch. The front panel system
LED will blink as the power supplies initialize. If the LED does not
blink, there is no power to the system. When the power comes on, the
LED will remain lit.
A steady green system LED indicates that the server is powered on. If
the system LED is amber, the system interlock chain is not complete.
See the "System Interlocks" section later in the chapter for further
instructions. If the system LED blinks once every 10-20 seconds, the
system is trying to start but may have a short.
