To adjust the screen for the current lighting conditions, press
the BRIGHTNESS key, which is the double-arrow key located
on the upper left-hand side of the 961/962. Press the top arrow
to brighten the screen, or the bottom arrow to darken the
screen.
At high brightness, the fluorescent tubes illuminating the
screen slowly dim after several thousand hours of use. If you
use the 961/962 for several hours each day, try to keep the
lighting level low when you don't actually need it (for
example, during twilight or nighttime hours). Occasional
users—once a week or less—don't need to worry about keeping
the lighting level low.
Producing the high brightness needed for sunlight visibility
creates heat within the control head. When used during hot
sunlit conditions, the 961/962 may automatically protect itself
from overheating by lowering its screen brightness. If this
situation occurs, it's perfectly acceptable to increase the
brightness whenever necessary—the screen will dim again, if
necessary.
If you don't touch any key on the control head for one hour or
more, its LCD screen automatically dims to half its maximum
brightness (based on its current brightness), if necessary. If
you press any key at any time, the display automatically
