trial fitting.
5.7.2 Adjusting the EBS
INFORMATION
The EBS function must be explained to the patient in detail. Through intensive training (active
loading and unloading of the prosthesis side while standing between parallel bars), the patient
must become familiar with the functionality of the EBS and find the optimum setting by trial and
error.
INFORMATION
The EBS adjusting aid is stuck on the side of the prosthetic knee joint.
The EBS adjusting aid is used to visually check EBS flexion during the training with the patient.
With unloaded EBS, the EBS adjusting aid is roughly parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube
adapter. Under load the EBS adjusting aid turns away from the longitudinal axis of the tube
adapter.
If the adjusting aid does not show any movement when there is load on the EBS and at heel
strike, then the initial tension is too high and must be reduced.
If there is no movement visible despite minimum initial tension, then the heel strike is not correct
and must be practised with the patient until he or she has learned how to load the EBS cor
rectly.

movement
between
0° and approx. 10°)
Required equipment and tools:
>
Parallel Bars, 710H10=2x3 Adjustment Wrench
► CAUTION! Explain the EBS function to the patient and familiarise the patient with the
EBS between parallel bars.
With the adjustment wrench, adjust the EBS so that the prosthetic knee joint goes into stance
phase flexion at heel strike, not too fast and not too slow in accordance with the needs of the
patient.
5.7.3 Adjusting the Extension Assist
Function
Extension assist
Tools required:
>
710H10=2x3 Adjustment Wrench
► CAUTION! The prosthetic foot must not swing through too far.
Adjust the extension assist using the adjustment wrench so that the prosthetic foot swings
through sufficiently according to the needs of the patient.
