Purpose
This chapter provides important safety instructions for the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data
Multiplexer Extend (Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend).

System design
The Alcatel-Lucent system complies with FDA/CDRH 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 as a
Class I and with IEC 60825-1 as a Class 1 Optical Fiber Telecommunication laser product.
The system has been designed to ensure that the operating personnel is not endangered by
laser radiation during normal system operation. The safety measures specified in the Food
and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (FDA/CDRH)
regulations and the international standards IEC-60825 or DIN/EN 60825 are met. Please
