Introduction

This section provides information to correctly identify and solve operational problems including
connectivity, voice quality, and reliability of the PBXgateway II. The information is organized into three
major areas:

1) System Checks

Basic Setup Information

Before any troubleshooting is performed the unit must be "base-lined". This basically means that
obvious things that we assume are fine, need to be checked.
Example: Unit is unplugged
This "baseline checklist" checks for obvious problems with supplied power to the unit and/or
connection problems with cables etc. (see page 140 for more information)
Status LEDs
A quick method for determining any problems with the PBXgateway II may be the front panel LEDs -
labeled WAN and Port Status. The LEDs provide a visual status and state of the unit. (See pages 144
and 145.)
Hardware/Software Revisions
Compatibility of the PBXgateway II hardware and software is crucial to proper operation. (See page
147.)

2) Voice Quality

The PBXgateway II is designed to provide the best audio quality for voice transmission. However, there
are certain network/compression combinations that may effect audio. (See page 147.)

3) Connectivity Issues

A network that will deliver voice packets without excessive delay or deterioration is also very
important to the PBXgateway II. (See page 153.)
Basic Set up Information
The Baseline Checklist is a logical list of items that are associated with an active and operational
installation. These items should be checked BEFORE you attempt to troubleshoot either the PBXgateway
II or Remote client.
Note: If any of the items are NOT true as stated, you should correct them as detailed herein, and then
continue with the remaining items for both units to verify a complete installation.

Network Checklist

Verify that the existing network is capable of transmitting and receiving data packets.
Verify the correct cable is used to connect the unit to the network device.
