Synchronous-Serial Connection
A synchronous-serial connection defines each character by providing a clock signal to identify the
beginning and end of each character. Voice and signaling packets are sent using the High Level Data
Link Control (HDLC) protocol using the synchronous serial WAN ports. A network termination device (TA,
CSU/DSU) handles the transmission of the HDLC data to the alternate device over the appropriate
network circuit.
Connection Type:
RVP_Direct
Advantages:
•
Synchronous transmission of data requires fewer bits (and takes less time).
•
Uses common network circuits.
•
Circuit switched networks are generally more reliable for voice transmission.
