1. Disconnect negative battery cable (3) from negative

battery terminal (1).
2. Set analog multimeter to check continuity. Connect

one tester lead to negative battery terminal (1) and the
other tester lead to the ground connection (2) for negative battery
cable (3).
If the meter does not indicate continuity, clean connections and/or
replace negative battery cable.
If the meter indicates continuity, go to the next step.
3. Set analog multimeter to "DCV" and set range to "20". Connect
BLACK tester lead to "- COM" and the RED tester lead to "+ VΩ".
4. Connect BLACK tester lead to clean engine ground.
